Kuala Lumpur has certainly come a long way from its humble roots as a tin mining settlement. Known as "KL" to most Southeast Asians, the capital of Malaysia has bloomed to become one of the leading cities in Asia, a vibrant metropolis of cultural and economic significance. Its rich heritage stems from its chequered history, colonial past and ongoing multicultural influence. KL's shining skyscrapers and wide bustling highways stand alongside cultural and religious monuments depicting the old and new.

KL is a contemporary metropolitan that hosts numerous financial hubs, shopping malls and nightlife establishments. The pride of the country is KL's Petronas Twin Towers which were until very recently the tallest building in the world. Old world charm still pervades the city, and can be experienced most keenly in China Town and Little India.
