you are here: home / about kuala lumpur

Kuala Lumpur has certainly come a long way from its humble roots as a tin mining settlement. Known
as "KL" to most Southeast Asians, the capital of Malaysia has bloomed to become one of the leading
cities in Asia, a vibrant metropolis of cultural and economic significance. Its rich heritage stems from
its chequered history, colonial past and ongoing multicultural influence. KL's shining skyscrapers
and wide bustling highways stand alongside cultural and religious monuments depicting the old and
new.
KL is a contemporary metropolitan that hosts numerous financial hubs, shopping malls and nightlife
establishments. The pride of the country is KL's Petronas Twin Towers which were until very recently
the tallest building in the world. Old world charm still pervades the city, and can be experienced most
keenly in China Town and Little India. More tastes of its cultural heritage can be found in the various
museums, art galleries, theatres, mosques and architectural treasures that are resident to this city,
just to name a few.
No visitor can pass through Southeast Asia without crossing paths with the locals' passion for food,
and KL is no exception. Its cultural melting pot has made for fantastic local cuisine, not to mention
the sprawling choice of international food that can be found in one city.
Its strategic position in Asia makes it a perfect stop-over to many other places in the country and
around the region. Also, within its reach are other gems of Malaysia, including famous rainforests,
coastlines and cultural hubs.
Kuala Lumpur is certainly the epitome of Malaysia, "Truly Asia."
